Switchback Trainee Patrick, 22, was released from prison homeless in June in the middle of the pandemic.

Watch the video below to see Patrick talk to BBC London about his experience, his relationship with his Switchback Mentor Raph, and his plans for the future.

Switchback’s analysis of Ministry of Justice data shows that 37% of prison-leavers in London – over 1,400 people – were released homeless or to ‘unknown circumstances’ during the pandemic. Among Switchback Trainees this year, a record 67% were released homeless while over half had no bank account and a third had no ID.

Switchback is new calling for a resettlement plan for London, to ensure the 10,000 people released from prison to the capital each year have a real chance to build a stable life as part of society.
