Switchback responds to prison plans on BBC News

By December 17, 2021No Comments

Before the publication of the government’s Prisons Strategy White Paper on December 7, Switchback’s Director of Impact & External Affairs Sam Boyd spoke on BBC News about the support that people need on release from prison. Watch the video below:

The White Paper includes some welcome commitments about the future of prisons, including around improving access to housing and employment on release. However, more action is needed to give everyone a real chance to change.

“What’s still lacking is a much more ambitious long-term plan to really address some of the long-standing issues in our prison system. What we see a lot of the time is people being released from prison homeless, without a bank account, without an ID and without a plan or any real support to make the change that they want to make in their lives.”

Sam Boyd, Director of Impact and External Affairs.

Along with our Trainees, we will be carefully reading and discussing the White Paper and planning a fuller response in the coming weeks.
